Crap on a cracker…It didn’t all fit into the kiln. Our weather hasn’t been very humid lately so everything dried rather quickly. We still programed a 6 hour preheat on the kiln just to be safe.
This is all earthenware cone 06 clay, almost all of it is reclaimed. That makes it extra cool, it’s nice to let things not go to waste.
We had to do some minor kiln maintenance before starting the firing. Our homemade custom downdraft vent’s hose had a hole in it. It completely disintegrated when I took it off to replace it. The heat and moisture did a number on the thin metal over the past couple years. The vent works very well and at a cost of under a hundred dollars it’s much more advantageous to build your own rather than a commercial one.
